Montreal, July 7, 2017– The Honourable Mélanie Joly, Member of Parliament for Ahunstic-Cartierville,visited the new Parcours Gouin welcome centre, located near the Pont Viau bridge in Ahunstic-Cartierville and Henri-Bourassa metro station. Inaugurated on June 8th in celebration of Montreal’s 375th anniversary, this is the first “Net Zero” energy consumption building.
This centre will welcome cyclists, pedestrians and outdoor enthusiasts. GUEPE (le groupe uni des éducateurs-naturalistes et professionels en environnement) will be in charge of managing and organizing activities.
Through The Canadian Municipalities Federation’s Green Municipal Fund, the federal government has contributed to funding $321,380 towards the construction of this building and provided a loan of $3,213,800. This represents one of the largest federal investments in Ahuntsic-Cartierville in over a decade.
Keep in mind that on June 23rd, our government invested an additional $72 million in the Green Municipal Fund. This investment will contribute to similiar projects, which will reduce emissions, create employment and promote the cleanliness of cities and towns across the country.
